Divine Sympathy: The Comfort of God’s Understanding
In moments of sorrow and grief, when our hearts ache and our souls feel burdened, we long for someone who truly understands. Human sympathy, though comforting, often falls short. But there is a divine sympathy that transcends all human limitations—a sympathy that flows from the heart of God Himself.
God’s Own Words
In the book of Exodus, God declares, “I know their sorrows!”. These words are not mere sentiment; they are a profound truth. Our heavenly Father, who formed us and knows every fiber of our being, perceives the depths of our pain. When earthly friends cannot fully grasp our unique grief, Jesus can. He who bore our sins also carried our sorrows. His eyes, now enthroned in glory, were once dimmed with tears.
The Pitying Eye
Israel languished under bondage, feeling forgotten and forsaken. Yet, at that very moment, God’s eye was tenderly fixed on His enslaved people. He saw their suffering, even when it seemed He did not care. His divine sympathy was yearningly beholding them. And so it is with us. When our needs reach their extremity, God stretches forth His supporting hand, revealing the plenitude of His grace.
Tears in God’s Bottle
Our tears are sacred things among the treasures of God. Each one is counted and recorded—drop by drop, tear by tear. The iron may have entered deeply into our souls, but rejoice! Jesus, the sorrowing and sympathizing Savior, knows our aching pangs and burning tears. He descends to deliver us from our anguish.
The God-Man-Mediator
In the New Testament, we find the elevating truth that Jesus, our high priest, sympathizes with our weaknesses. He was tested in every way, just as we are. His sympathy is exalted, pure, infinite, and free from selfishness. When earthly sympathy reaches its limits, His divine compassion knows no bounds.
A Green Pasture
To the stripped and desolate heart, Jesus offers a green pasture amid life’s storms and tempests. His sympathy sustains us when human comfort falls short. So, suffering believer, take heart. You are not alone. The God who knows your sorrows will come down to deliver you.
